KAWA Uganda Welcomes Janet Museveni’s Reappointment as Education Minister in New Cabinet List

KAWA Uganda has welcomed the reappointment of Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni as Minister of Education and Sports following the release of the new Cabinet list by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The new Cabinet list has quickly become one of the biggest national news stories in Uganda, as the President names the 2026–2031 executive team and introduces a number of changes across key government ministries. Daily Monitor reported that the new Cabinet retains Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni among other senior figures.

For Uganda’s education sector, the reappointment of Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni is a major highlight. It signals continuity at the Ministry of Education and Sports at a time when schools, teachers, learners, parents, and education partners are looking forward to stronger implementation of curriculum reforms, digital learning, teacher professional development, school improvement, skills development, and improved learning outcomes.

Education Ministry Leadership in the New Cabinet

Under the new Cabinet list, the Ministry of Education and Sports is led by:

Minister of Education and Sports
Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni

Minister of State for Education and Sports, Higher Education
Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo

Minister of State for Education and Sports, Primary Education
Hon. Phyllis Chemutai

Minister of State for Education and Sports, Sports
Hon. Peter Ogwang

KAWA Uganda congratulates Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni and the full education leadership team upon their appointment. Their leadership comes at a time when Uganda’s education system is focusing on competence-based learning, teacher support, digital transformation, school inspection, learner innovation, sports development, and practical skills for national development.

KAWA Uganda Welcomes Continuity in Education Leadership

KAWA Uganda welcomes the reappointment of Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni because education remains one of the most important pillars of Uganda’s transformation.

The Ministry of Education and Sports is central to the future of Uganda’s children and young people. It guides schools, teachers, learners, universities, technical institutions, sports structures, and education partners across the country.

At a time when Uganda is implementing key reforms in the education sector, continuity in leadership is important. It helps institutions, schools, and development partners to build on existing programmes instead of starting afresh.

KAWA Uganda believes that the reappointment provides an opportunity to strengthen collaboration in areas such as curriculum-aligned digital content, ICT Clubs, teacher professional development, offline learning resources, school leadership improvement, learner-centred teaching, and innovation in schools.

New Cabinet List Attracts National Attention

President Museveni’s new Cabinet list has attracted wide public attention because it includes both continuity and fresh appointments.

According to the published report, President Museveni unveiled a reshuffle covering Cabinet ministers, ministers of state, and senior presidential advisers. The appointments were made under Articles 108 and related provisions of the 1995 Constitution. (Monitor)

At the top leadership level, H.E. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo remains Vice President, while Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja remains Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in Parliament.

Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga remains First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs. Hon. Dr. Crispus Walter Kiyonga becomes Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament. Hon. Lukia Nakadama has been named Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio.

Education Sector Receives a Strong Signal

The reappointment of Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni gives the education sector a strong signal of continued national attention.

Uganda’s education system is currently handling important priorities, including implementation of the competence-based curriculum, expansion of digital learning, strengthening of teacher training, improvement of school supervision, promotion of inclusive education, and support for practical skills development.

For KAWA Uganda, these priorities connect directly with the work being done through KAWA Connect, KAWA ICT Clubs, teacher support programmes, school innovation activities, and curriculum-aligned digital resources.

KAWA Uganda therefore sees this appointment as a renewed opportunity to support schools, teachers, and learners in using technology to improve teaching and learning.
