KAWA Uganda is an educational technology and capacity-development organisation working with schools, teachers, learners, government institutions and development partners to strengthen teaching, learning and school innovation.
We help schools move beyond simply owning technology to using it effectively, safely and sustainably. Our work includes locally relevant digital content, KAWA Connect, teacher professional development, computer laboratory sustainability, learner-led ICT Clubs and practical innovation programmes.
A Ugandan Organisation Working With Schools to Make Technology Meaningful KAWA, formally known as Kisubi Associated Writers Agency, brings together educators, content developers, trainers, technology professionals and school partners committed to improving education. Our work responds to an important reality: providing computers and digital equipment to schools is only the beginning. Sustainable impact requires trained teachers, relevant learning content, active learners, supportive school leadership, good maintenance systems and continued mentorship. KAWA connects these elements so that technology can support real teaching, learning, creativity and problem-solving.

Why KAWA Exists
The Challenge We Address
Across Uganda, many schools have teachers and learners who are eager to benefit from technology. However, access is often affected by limited connectivity, inadequate digital content, insufficient teacher support, inactive computer laboratories and a lack of structured opportunities for learners to practise digital skills.
Some school computer laboratories are used only for formal ICT lessons. Others experience preventable faults, weak maintenance routines or limited integration with classroom teaching.
Learners may study technology in theory without enough opportunities to create websites, develop media, design systems, solve community problems or present practical innovations.
KAWA’s Response
KAWA works with the whole school community to address these challenges.
We support teachers with practical professional development, provide curriculum-supporting digital resources, strengthen computer laboratory management and help learners develop skills through ICT Clubs and innovation projects.
Our approach combines technology, education, local knowledge, mentoring and partnerships.
Our Story
From Educational Writing to Digital School Transformation
KAWA grew from a commitment to help Ugandan educators create, organise and share quality learning materials.
As technology became increasingly important in education, KAWA expanded its work from educational writing and teacher collaboration into digital-content development, teacher digital-skills training, school technology support and learner innovation.
Through years of working directly with schools, KAWA observed that the greatest challenge was not always the absence of technology. In many cases, schools already had equipment but needed relevant content, teacher confidence, effective management and continued support.
This experience shaped KAWA’s practical approach: working alongside teachers and school leaders, listening to local needs and developing solutions that can function within the realities of Ugandan schools.
Today, KAWA supports schools through KAWA Connect, teacher professional development, ICT Clubs, computer laboratory sustainability, digital-content development and learner innovation programmes.
