Agago District is an education and agricultural hub in the Acholi Sub-region of Northern Uganda. Established on 1 July 2010 after being carved out of the former Pader District, Agago spans approximately 3,497 square kilometres. Its administrative headquarters are located at Lokole (also referenced as Agago/Lukole), situated roughly 80 kilometres southeast of Kitgum and 370 kilometres north of Kampala.
The district is bordered by Kitgum District to the north, Kotido District to the northeast, Abim District to the east, Otuke District to the south, and Pader District to the west. Administratively, Agago is divided into three parliamentary constituencies—Agago County, Agago North County, and Agago West County—comprising 26 lower local government councils (sub-counties and town councils), 117 parishes/wards, and 1,147 villages.
According to the 2024 National Population and Housing Census, Agago District has a total population of 307,235 people (147,969 males and 159,266 females) across 67,760 households, with an average household size of 4.5 persons. The population is youth-dense: over 53% (163,358 persons) are aged 0–17 years, including 63,059 children of primary school age (6–12 years) and 49,367 adolescents (13–18 years). Educational access gaps remain critical, with 19,736 children aged 6–12 and 12,835 adolescents aged 13–17 recorded as out of school, alongside 23,538 children aged 3–5 lacking access to Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).

Agrarian Economy & Enterprise
Over 91.2% of households (61,829 homes) in Agago depend on agriculture as their primary livelihood. Production centers on food, cash, and oilseed crops including maize, cassava, simsim (sesame), groundnuts, sunflower, sorghum, and beans, alongside livestock rearing, piggery, and shea-nut processing. Contextualizing STEM and ICT Club innovations around crop monitoring, livestock registers, market pricing, and cooperative record-keeping directly supports household resilience against recurring climate and drought shocks.
