Namayingo District is located along the Equator. It is bordered by Bugiri District to the northwest, Busia District to the northeast, the Republic of Kenya to the east and southeast, the Republic of Tanzania to the south and Mayuge District to the west and southwest. Namayingo, where the district headquarters are located, is approximately 92 kilometres (57 mi), by road, southeast of Jinja, the largest city in the sub-region.
The district headquarter is 216 km away from the capital city Kampala, along the newly tarmacked Musita- Namayingo- Lumino -Busia Road.
Namayingo District is a District found in the Busoga Sub-Region of Eastern Uganda. The district has 9 sub counties, 43 Parishes and 305 villages. The education department in Namayingo District began in 2010 with just two senior officers. Since then, it has expanded to five officers, all substantively appointed to oversee various educational functions within the district.
Organizational Structure
The department is divided into two key sectors, each managed by a senior officer:
Education: This sector is headed by the District Education Officer, responsible for overseeing the district’s educational policies and school administration.
Inspectorate: This sector is led by the Senior Inspector of Schools, focusing on maintaining educational standards and ensuring school compliance with regulations.
Additionally, the department coordinates its activities through four co-coordinating centers: Buswale CC, Syanyonja CC, Sigulu CC and Banda CC
Primary Education
Namayingo District is home to 84 government-aided primary schools, with a combined total enrollment of 50,611 pupils. In addition, there are 101 privately owned primary schools, contributing to the district’s educational landscape.
Secondary Education
The district has five government grant-aided secondary schools, enrolling a total of 3,971 students. There are also 11 private secondary schools, of which three have partnered with the government under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) and Universal Post-Primary Education and Training (UPOLET) programs.
Early Childhood Development and Technical Education
In terms of early childhood education, Namayingo District has 91 Early Child Development (ECD) centers. These centers play a critical role in preparing young children for primary education. The district also boasts three private technical schools, offering specialized vocational training and skills development.
