2:21-25. The example of Christ to those who suffer
Peter moves on to the
example which Christ himself gave, not only to slaves who suffer under unjust
masters, but to all Christians. Christians should endure suffering and persecution
as Jesus Christ did, without desiring to retaliate, answer back, threaten or
lie. In 2 :21-24, the thought of Peter follows Isaiah 53. The price paid for
the salvation of mankind is referred to in 2 :24. In 2 :25 Peter moves to the
idea of Jesus Christ as the shepherd who brings the lost sheep to safety
(compare Ezekiel 34:11- 19, Psalm 23, John 10:7-16, John 21: 15-17, Acts
20:28).
