The doctrine of God
The Jewish conception
of the living God, creator of all things (4 :9), transcendent and holy (I :
15), the King (2 :9), patient and gracious (3:20, 5: 10) who chose Israel to be
his own people, comes out in the letter. But so does what Jesus taught his
disciples, that God is Father, and uniquely the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
(I: 2, 3). When Christians pray, it is to the holy Father-God (I: 17), the God
of the Resurrection (I: 3 and 21), who fills his people with a living hope of
rich blessings to come (1 :4-5).
