The Ministry of Education has officially released the 2025 school calendar for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, providing key reporting dates for learners across all levels. This comprehensive schedule ensures smooth transitions and clear timelines for the academic year.
Key Reporting Dates for Transitioning Learners
- Primary Seven (PLE) Candidates: Learners who sat for the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations will report to Senior One on February 10, 2025.
- Senior Four (UCE) Candidates: Learners transitioning to Senior Five after completing the Uganda Certificate of Education will report on February 24, 2025.
Placement Dates:
- Placement for PLE candidates will be conducted on January 27 and 28.
- Placement for UCE candidates will occur on February 6 and 7.
Term Dates for 2025
For other learners, the school calendar is as follows:
- First Term: February 3 – May 2, 2025
- Second Term: May 26 – August 22, 2025
- Third Term: September 15 – December 5, 2025
Holiday Breaks:
- First Term Break: May 3 – May 25
- Second Term Break: August 23 – September 14
- Third Term Break: December 6, 2025 – February 1, 2026
Important Guidelines from the Ministry
Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, has emphasized strict adherence to the official dates.
“Teaching and learning should start promptly at the beginning of each school term, and the school terms should not be cut short without prior written permission from the Permanent Secretary,” Dr. Turyagyenda stated.
Institutions within the Kampala Metropolitan area have been advised to stagger reporting dates to alleviate traffic congestion during critical reporting and closing periods.
Tertiary and Vocational Institutions
For health training institutions like nursing and midwifery:
- Academic year starts on January 25, 2025, and ends on June 27, 2025.
Allied health institutions:
- Start on February 3, 2025, and conclude on June 27, 2025.

KAWA’s Role in Supporting ICT Clubs
