At Dabani Girls Secondary School in Busia, the power of technology is transforming the lives of students through the ICT Club. Recently, learners from the ICT Club demonstrated their newly acquired skills in designing brochures and certificates—an impressive milestone for the students.
In addition to design work, 20 of these learners are now actively involved in computer repair and maintenance, guided by their teachers. This hands-on experience is building critical skills that will serve them in both academic and professional environments.
One of the inspiring success stories comes from Nakayenze Mercy Prossy, who shared her journey with the ICT Club:
“Thanks to the ICT Club, I can now open the system unit and clean the inner part of a computer. I finally saw what the CPU looks like. I used to think that since it is the brain of the computer, it is very big, but it’s very tiny. I didn’t know. ICT has really changed my life. I can also design business cards, invitation cards, and calendars. I can also design wedding cards—people like weddings in December. So, since I can design wedding cards, I can make money.”
Mercy added:
“When I was in Senior One, before I joined this club, we just waited for the teachers to come and teach us, and we did not know anything. But through the ICT Club, we learned how to connect computers, how to connect a mouse to the CPU, and how to connect the printer. I can now connect a computer and make it work. I am so grateful for the ICT Club.”
The impact of the ICT Club at Dabani Girls’ is just one example of how technology is unlocking new opportunities for students in Uganda, empowering them with essential skills for the future.
Special thanks go to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and its Executive Director, Hon. Nyombi Thembo, for their unwavering support of ICT initiatives in schools. Through their leadership, the UCC continues to expand access to ICT infrastructure and training, ensuring that schools like Dabani Girls’ can be part of Uganda’s digital revolution. Their partnership with KAWA and schools across the country is critical in making ICT education accessible and impactful for thousands of students.
