Problems faced by demonstration ranchers in Botswana.

•    There is a problem of inadequate capital for further investments on the ranches.
•    There is a problem of insufficient skilled labour to run the ranches.
•    Seasonal Shortages of water and pasture especially in the dry season.
•    Lack of good local market.  Ranches are situated in sparsely populated areas, with the result that local market is limited.
•    Animals are affected by many diseases and pests, such as rinder pest, foot and mouth, cast, coast fever tsetse flies.  The insecticides for clearing them are very expensive.
•    Rearing poor breeds of animals which to some extent limit the productivity of the ranches.
•    The carrying capacity of most range lands is very low hence a large area is required to feed the animals.
•    There is limited research facilities which would work to improve on the productivity of animals.
•    A problem of transport and communication  since most ranches are located in geographically remote areas.
•    The problem of land tenure system.
