The problems faced by the Fulani
• The problem of prolonged drought conditions from October to late March. This leads to problems like:-
• Death of many animals.
• Lack of enough water for animals.
• Poor pasture for animals.
• The animal pests especially tsetse flies which occur in the rain season. These cause Nagana to animals and sleeping sickness to man.
• Occurrence of Wild animals which eat calves and threaten human beings too.
• The constant famine among the Fulani. This is because they do not grow crops since they do not settle in one place for long.
• Easy spread of Cattle diseases caused by communial grazing.
• The problem of over stocking of their livestock which causes over grazing and general environmental degradation.
• The tribal conflicts.
• The occurrence of soil erosion.
• The poor quality cattle kept.
• The long distances moved with the animals to the market centres make animals lose weight.
