8:21-30. 'Who are you?'
The confrontation continued between the religious
leaders and Jesus; everything that Jesus said was misunderstood because his
opponents did not accept the spiritual truth in what he said. When Jesus used
of himself the divine 'I am' (Exodus 3:14),
his opponents demanded to know exactly who he was (8:24-25).
Jesus did not add any more to what he had already said publicly about his
relationship to his Father (8:25-26)
and the Pharisees continued in 'spiritual darkness' (8:27).
Jesus then predicted his crucifixion for which they would be responsible but
through which they would see that he was from God and totally obedient to the
will of God (8:27-29). There were some
who believed, however (8:30),
amongst the crowds who heard him.
