7:1-9. Jesus and his brothers
The last reference in this gospel to Jesus' ministry
in Galilee is given in 7: 1.
Jesus' brothers did not believe in him but told him to go with them from
Galilee to Jerusalem to celebrate the approaching Feast of Shelters. What they
said indicated that they thought that if his claims were true, he would receive
public recognition as the Messiah in Jerusalem (7:2-5).
He refused to go with them-'the right time for me has not yet come' (7:6). His brothers' lives were controlled
by the times and seasons of Judaism, by the time scale of this world, but God's
Son would act only in obedience to the will of his Father so that the divine
plan might be carried out in God's time.
