15:21-32. Crucifixion

As Jesus was taken to the place of execution by the soldiers, a Jew from Cyrene in North Africa was forced to help Jesus carry the heavy wooden cross beam. Mark translates the meaning of the Hebrew name 'Golgotha'. In this passage there are two references to fulfilled prophecies from Psalm 22, in 15 :24 (Psalm 22: 18) and 15 :29 (Psalm 22 :7).

The notice of accusation nailed on the cross called Jesus 'King of the Jews' and the priests mocked him, calling him 'the king of Israel'.

Throughout the crucifixion Jesus endured insults and mockery (15 :29-32), even from the two robbers who were executed with him.
