14:43-51. Jesus arrested
In the darkness of the
night, Jesus was seized by a crowd of armed servants and slaves sent by the
chief priests; they were guided by Judas who had arranged with them to indicate
which of the group in the garden was Jesus. One of the disciples (identified as
Peter in John 18:10) tried to defend Jesus but when Jesus made no attempt to
defend himself, all the disciples ran away. In 14:50-51 Mark mentions a young
man who happened to be nearby and who was almost arrested as well; it is
suggested that the young man might have been Mark himself, too young to be a
follower of Jesus but curious about him. No other gospel mentions this young
man.
