15:16-20. Mockery
The mockery by the Roman soldiers was not only what might be expected of men who kept order by force in a conquered country but was understood by Mark as fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah 52: 14, 53:3-7.
Jesus is mocked
Jesus was the King of
the Jews in a sense that his accusers and tormentors could not understand, but
he accepted the evil that was inflicted on him so that his redemptive work
might be brought to a finish.
