• Provision of raw materials for the associated industries like cosmetics, Oil and Margarine manufacturers.
• It is a source of cash income to the peasant farmers as well as traders who deal in the crop.
• Provision of employment to the people.
• Provision of revenue to the government and it is also the foreign exchange earner to Gambia.
