Conditions necessary for Cocoa growing.
• Heavy rainfall of about 1250 mm but well distributed throughout the year
• It requires high temperatures of not less than 21oC.
• Cocoa grows best in Equatorial climatic regions within 10oN and 10oS of the Equator.
• Requires fertile, deep and well drained soils with humus for proper growth.
• Low land conditions that ensure high temperature.
• It must be shaded from the intensity of heat despite its high temperature requirement.
• It requires shelter from strong winds that may blow away Cocoa pods.
• It requires a lot of manual labour for processing and harvesting.
• It is a labour intensive crop.
• There is need for enough sunshine to dry the seeds.
• Other crops grown under the same conditions are Coffee, Rubber, and Oil palm.
