What is a Map

A map is a representation of human and physical features of the earth surface on a flat surface as viewed from above.

The features of the earth surface shown on the maps are usually reduced in size because a map is much smaller than the part of the surface that it represents.

The maps mainly show only the tops of the geographical features as seen in the illustration in fig. 1. When drawing the map of the surrounding areas, selected geographical features are included which in most cases are stated in the question.
