The Scale shows the relationship between the distance on the ground and that on a piece of paper.

The scale is shown in three main ways:

1.   As an arithmetic expression. This can be done in two ways.

(i) Ratio form (1:50,000)

 

 

(ii) Representative  fraction

 

 

2.   As a statement: 2 centimeters represent one kilometer  or 2 cm to the km.

3.   As linear scale: This takes the form of line which is marked off into several divisions, each division representing a certain ground distance as indicated against it.

 

Note : The primary part of the scale is marked  in whole numbers.
