This last question was put by Jesus himself to those around him and we are not told how they answered. The point of the question is to show that the idea of another king like David is not an adequate understanding of the Messiah. David was one of Jesus' ancestors (Matthew 1: 1, Luke 1:27) but Jesus was more than just the descendant of David.
