From a local forum to a
national network.
Established in the year 2000 by a group of teachers from St. Mary’s College Kisubi, KAWA was born out of concern for the limited availability of appropriate, affordable textbooks in Ugandan schools.
Most available materials were too expensive, outdated, or developed for foreign contexts. To address this gap, these passionate educators formed a forum aimed at writing and publishing high-quality textbooks tailored to Uganda’s unique curriculum and environment.
The initiative quickly attracted teachers nationwide. By 2006, KAWA formally registered as a community-based organization. Today, we support schools through professional development, publishing, and digital innovations like KAWA CONNECT.

Coordinating school ICT Clubs in partnership with UCC. Introducing students to coding, app development, and digital design.
KAWA Connect
An innovative offline digital learning system offering instant access to textbooks, videos, and quizzes for schools without internet.
