The equatorial climate

This is the north central part of the Congo basin and southern coastal areas of west Africa. Temperatures are constantly high, and the range of temperature both daily and annual is small. Humidity is high throughout the year and there is no dry season though two rainfall maxima occur just after the sun has passed over head. Rainfall is often of the convectional type and typically occurs in the form of afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Any one country located within the Equatorial region of Africa can be: Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Guinea, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Southern Nigeria.

The economic activities carried out in the Equatorial region) are:-

Lumbering which involves the felling down of trees for timber, firewood for building and other products from Sawmills.

Agriculture takes place as crops such as rubber, Oil Palm, Cocoa, Groundnuts, Bananas, Sugarcane, Pineapples are grown.

Mining which involves the extraction of minerals such as diamond, Oil e.t.c

Tourism takes place as people visit the area to see interesting features such as the nature of the vegetation and Wildlife.  

Fishing takes place in the near by rivers and lakes.

Trade may be another economic activity as people deal in commercial items like timber, Cocoa Oil palm e.t.c

 

Steps to be taken to improve on the economic activities in the areas.

·        Promote mechanized felling of trees.

·        Encourage the exploitation of minerals.

·        Expansion of transport network such as roads, Railways and waterways.

·        Open up plantational farms since conditions are favourable for plantational crops like rubber, Oil palm, Sugarcane, e.t.c

·        Encourage settlement by providing social amenities and services.

·        Eradicate pests and diseases through spraying.

·        Encourage industrialization.

·        Encourage foreign investors who have large amount of capital to come and invest in the country.

·        Educate the masses on how to use the environment profitably.

·        Form cooperative organizations to promote the marketing of the products.
