Iron ore mining in Africa
Africa has large amounts of iron ore. Almost every country has some deposits of this mineral. The leading producers are Liberia, Mauritania, Angola, Gabon, Guinea, Senegal, South Africa and Algeria.
Most of the production is exported to developed countries of Western Europe. It is only in South Africa and Zambia where mines have been exploited for large scale production. Algeria and Egypt have also developed iron and steel complexes.
