Importance of oil mineral to Libya

i.    There has been provision of foreign exchange through oil exports which has led to improvement in other sectors of the economy like transport and agriculture.
ii.    The growth of towns which have led to settlement of people.  The towns include Zuetina, Marsa El Brega, Nafoora, etc.
iii.    There was discovery of huge reserves of underground water which is enough to serve desert dwellers for 500 years and  this has made farming possible.
iv.    Provision of income to the people who are employed on the mines.  They can now afford, better clothing, education, better health.  This is a high standard of living.
v.    There has been provision of employment opportunities to the local Libyans.
vi.    Development of petroleum related industries.
vii.    Development of transport and communication lines.
viii.    Promotion of international relations.
ix.    Currently Libya is the only African country with the highest GDP, and whose people live above the poverty and it is no longer in the third world.
