Formation of Lake Chad

The process known as Quaternary down warping formed Lake Chad.
Down warping is caused by converging convective currents in the earth's mantle.

The downward movements within the earth's interior pull the earth's surface towards the earth’s centre causing some areas to sag.

Sagging resulted into saucer-shaped shallow depression.

The depression or basin was later filled by water to form a lake.
