Desert soils
Desert soils are tropical soils of the semi desert areas of Africa. They are common in North East of Africa. In terms of characteristics, desert soils are yellowish grey to reddish brown in colour. They have no humus due to absence of vegetation. They have high lime content. They are thin stony and sandy. They have coarse structure or texture. Some of them are very alkaline due to high rates of evaporation. The have shallow profiles due to absence of leaching by rain. Most of them are wind formed.
