Conditions which have led to the establishment of forest plantation in Swaziland.

The topography of the area.  The highlands of about 1000 m above sea level in the west is rugged with thin layers of soils which cannot support the growth of crops hence the need for alternative form of land utilisation.
The subtropical cool temperate climate ensures prolific growth of softwoods which mature within 15 years.
Moderate rainfall of about 1000 mm also supports coniferous forests.
Need to prevent soil erosion along hilly slopes and preserve catchement areas on the lower Veld.
Government policy on economical viable use of the land as well as the commitment to restore forests.
The successful establishment of these plantations is also due to the careful attention of human beings, at every stage in the development etc.
