Conditions which contributed to the setting up of the Project.

1.    The subtropical cool temperate climate ensures prolific growth of softwoods which mature within 15 years.
2.    The topography of the area.  The highland of about 1000 m above Sea level which is rugged,  with thin layer of soils which cannot support growth of crops hence the need fort alternative form of land utilization.
3.    Moderate rainfall received in area which supports the growth of coniferous forest.
4.    Soil erosion along hilly slopes call for environmental conservation measures hence the need for planting trees.  This is also the government’s objective.
5.    Governments policy on economical viable use of the land as well the commitment to restore forests.
African countries which have established forest plantations are Gabon, Nigeria, Kenya, Botswana, South Africa, Lethoso, Ethiopia and Zaire.
