Forestry in Gabon.
Gabon in west Africa is a good example of an African tropical hardwood producing nation. Gabon’s forest lands lie in the basin of the River Ogoue.
Most of the country is covered with dense tropical rain forest except in the south and the south-east. The forested areas contain valuable Okoume used for plywood. Gabon has a monopoly of the world’s supply of Okoume. There are also valuable reserves of ebony, mahogany, kolanus, Azigo, sepele, Teak etc. About 1.3 million tonnes of wood are exported annually worth about US$ 150 million.
