14:10-11. Judas
Mark records that Judas
decided to collaborate with the chief priests in order to make it possible for
them to arrest him secretly. The priests promised to give him money but the
real motives of Judas are hidden; Judas decided to betray Jesus before the
priests offered him money. It may be suggested that what Judas wanted was the
great Davidic king with a worldly kingdom; when he realized that this was not
the plan of Jesus he turned against him. His betrayal of Jesus is a terrible
warning to every generation of Christians that it is possible to lose one's
faith and original commitment (9 :43-48).
