Empowering Learning Beyond the Internet

In a world where education increasingly depends on connectivity, millions of learners in rural Uganda remain excluded from the digital revolution.
But from this challenge, a bold Ugandan innovation has emerged — KAWA CONNECT, a transformative offline digital learning solution now nominated for the prestigious World Summit Award (WSA).

After a series of rigorous pitching sessions and validation visits, KAWA CONNECT was officially selected among Uganda’s top innovations for its powerful social impact, local ingenuity, and global relevance.

Born in Uganda, Built for the World

KAWA CONNECT was created by KAWA Uganda, an education technology organization committed to bridging the digital divide in schools.

The device is a portable offline learning hub that stores and delivers interactive, multimedia educational content — without the need for internet access.
When powered on, it creates a local Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing learners and teachers to access videos, e-books, quizzes, and curriculum-based lessons on any phone, tablet, or computer — for free, offline, and anytime.

In communities where data costs are high, power supply is unreliable, and internet coverage is scarce, KAWA CONNECT has become a lifeline for education.
It transforms any classroom into a connected learning space — powered by local content, creativity, and collaboration.

Impact That Speaks for Itself

From its launch in 2023, KAWA CONNECT has reached over 283 schools and 180,000 learners across Uganda, from urban centers to remote villages.

Teachers who once struggled to access teaching materials now use KAWA CONNECT to deliver dynamic, interactive lessons aligned with Uganda’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Students in rural Kamuli, Kyenjojo, or Arua can now learn using the same digital simulations and e-books as their peers in Kampala.

The results are striking:

  • 📚 Improved learner engagement through videos and interactive exercises
  • 👩🏾‍🏫 Enhanced teacher confidence in digital pedagogy
  • Reduced data costs and complete independence from internet connectivity
  • 💡 Innovation through ICT Clubs, where students create digital projects and solutions inspired by the content on KAWA CONNECT

From Local Classrooms to Global Recognition

The World Summit Awards (WSA) recognize digital innovations that create sustainable social impact worldwide.
For Uganda, this nomination represents more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of local innovation solving global challenges.

KAWA CONNECT stands as proof that African solutions can transform education sustainably, even in the most resource-limited settings.
It embodies the true spirit of the SDGs:

  • SDG 4: Quality Education
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

As the project moves to the next phase of the WSA Global Online Jury, the story of KAWA CONNECT will be shared with innovators, experts, and changemakers from over 180 countries — amplifying Uganda’s voice in the global digital transformation agenda.

A Call to the World: Support Uganda’s Digital Future

The journey of KAWA CONNECT is powered by vision, resilience, and collaboration.
From teachers in rural classrooms to students exploring coding through ICT Clubs, every story reflects one truth: when technology meets purpose, transformation follows.

We invite everyone — educators, partners, and global jurors — to see the power of a Ugandan innovation that refuses to let connectivity determine a child’s future.

🌟 KAWA CONNECT is not just a device — it’s a movement for digital equality.
And now, it stands proudly on the global stage, representing the hope and brilliance of Africa’s education innovators.

Congratulations to the entire KAWA CONNECT team, partners, and supporters!
Your innovation is inspiring a generation and proving that world-class solutions can rise from the heart of Uganda.
