Preface

The Rhinelands is intended in the first place for students in Secondary schools in East Africa and may also be of great value to students in higher institutions of learning. Many books of The Rhinelands have been written in a very elaborate manner however, experience has shown that most ordinary level students cannot comprehend let alone make full use of the concepts and ideas contained in many of them.

This book has been written basing on the standard teaching syllabus for Uganda Certificate of Education Level. The Rhinelands examines the physical and human activities taking place in Switzerland, German, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Chapters have been arranged according to the teaching order followed by most geography teachers in secondary schools. There are several statistical diagrams which if interpreted properly can help a student to explain the geographical concepts with minimum difficult. The book also provides questions and answer guides at the end of each chapter meant to help students answer examination questions. I believe that many geographers will find the book worthy using.

To Moses Wamanga at KAWA publishing House, I am grateful for the excellent job of editing, drawing maps, printing and publishing this book. My most heartfelt thanks go as ever to my wife Anne for all the material and moral support towards the success of this work.
