Sandspits

Sandspits are products of long-shore drift and river deposition. Longshore drift is the movement of beach materials like sand, gravel, and mud. This is caused by ocean current, winds moving water and other materials along the shore.

Below is a Spit from Space.

A bay or an inlet at the coast may be subjected to deposition by the incoming silts and sands from the interior brought by the rivers.

The long shore drift forces materials like sand, stones and pebbles to move along the Coast. Sands may be deposited in the bay.

The deposits of sands and other materials may be attached to one end of the main land while the other end is suspended in the Sea.

Sandspits is a low ridge of pebbles or sand deposited in a bay.

Sandspits occur along, the S. West Coast i.e along Namibia and Mozambique Coasts, Nile Delta, W. Africa at the mouth of R. Gambia and at Walvis Bay in Namibia.
