Problems associated with sedentary farming

Majority of the farmers are ignorant about many things, for example, weather conditions, soils, seeds and fertilisers and it is not an easy task to explain the advantages of modern methods and to have them adopted.
Over cultivation of the pieces of land leads to soil exhaustion and soil erosion.
Pests and diseases frequently destroy sizeable proportions of the crops.
Food storage is done with much care hence encouraging weevils, rats and fungi to destroy food.
Cultivation is invariably on small holdings which usually give low yields  as well as severely limiting the productivity of labour because the farmer is unemployed   for a greater part of the year.
Seeds are broadcast at random without following well-made row.  This forces plants to compete with each other for both light and nutrients hence producing poor quality yields.
Lack of capital
Poor transport and communication among others
