Line fishing
Fishing by line is still important in many African countries. Commercial lines are employed particularly in areas where the sea floor is rugged and likely to destroy trawl nets. There are two types of fishing lines, namely hand lines and long lines. Hand line is short and has a single baited hook. Each line is normally handled by an individual fisherman. The line is drawn to the deck ocean the fish has been hooked. Long lines can have as many as 5000 hooks lying a few metres apart. Some lines may be as long as two kilometres. The lines are important for deep sea fishing.
