How rubber is processed
·
After five
years, workers tap the liquid called LATEX from trees by use of knives.
·
A slanting 'V-Shaped' cut is made on the tree trunk and a milky substance in the
name latex collects in.
·
·
Tappers start
their work early in the morning and tap about 300 trees each. The latex runs out into small cups attached to the tree.
·
The cups
containing latex are collected in the evening,
when there is rain, tapping is not done.
·
The latex
collected is then diluted with water and then poured in aluminium tankers.
·
Formic or acetic
is added to make the latex coagulated into
soft spongy blocks called coagulant rubber.
·
The coagulant
rubber is then passed through rollers to
squeeze out water and later produce sheet rubber(crepe rubber)
·
This is later
cut into standard sizes.
·
The rubber
sheets are later smoked in special smoked houses for several days in order to
preserve them.
·
It is later on
parked and exported through Monrovia
Port.
