The torture of Jeremiah by Pashhur (Jeremiah 20: 1-6)

As a consequence of what is described in chapter 19, the chief priest of the Temple had Jeremiah seized, beaten and chained up all night where he could be seen by those coming to the Temple. But this persecution did not silence Jeremiah, who pronounced an oracle of judgement on Pashhur after he was freed. Jeremiah announced publicly that Pashhur would be known by a new symbolic name, 'Terror Everywhere', which would signify what would happen to Jerusalem, as well as to Pashhur and his family. '
