Warping.
This is a continuous compression of forces on the rock strata over a long period. It is very much similar to folding except warping covers large basins and upland domes and plateau. The forces acting on the strata are the same as in folding.
Warping is in two forms namely: down warping and upwarping. In Africa, the upwarping was responsible for formation of plateaus such as
- the Jos plateau in Nigeria,
- Guinea highlands,
- the Adamawa highlands etc.
