Air transport in Africa

Air transport in Africa has expanded more rapidly than other means of transport since 1948. Many African cities are linked to other countries world- wide through airline networks. As a result, Africa is now a few hours journey from any of the world's continents. More and more people have also turned to using aircraft as a means of travel.
Apart from passenger service, aircraft are also used to airfreight:
Horticultural products from Africa to Europe during winter, when Europe cannot produce enough fresh vegetables and fruits.
Light produce among African countries. For example, Kenyan fish is airfreighted to the drier land-locked Zambia.
Valuable industrial products from Africa to other continents. For example, gold and diamonds from South Africa are air freighted to America and Europe.
