Jesus the Lord
The other title which
Peter gave to Jesus on the Day of Pentecost was 'Lord'. Used in a simple sense,
it could just mean something like 'Sir" but the way in which Peter used it
indicated something much more important. The Jews, when referring to God,
avoided speaking his Holy Name, to keep the Commandment that God's name must
not be misused (Exodus
20:7). In the place of his name they used the title 'Lord'. Whet;
Peter says that God has made Jesus 'Lord' he means that Jesus was given God's
authority and power. Peter gives to 'Jesus the same title which the Jews gave
to God.
