8:11-13. The Pharisees demand a sign from Jesus
This hostile challenge
to Jesus from the Pharisees leads on to the next rather difficult passage
(8:14-21). Jesus refused to abuse his divine powers in the way the Pharisees
demanded. If they could not see any proof of his divine mission in the
exorcisms and healing he performed, they were spiritually blind; no further
wonderful sign would convince them if they believed that his power came from
Beelzebul (3 :22). Many people in our modern world also want the wrong kind of
proof about Jesus Christ and his power.
