In addition to showing the divine power of Jesus, this incident (which has some similarities with the miracle of 4:35-41) also shows the continuing spiritual incomprehension and lack of faith of the disciples. They had not understood what was being revealed about Jesus when he satisfied the needs of the crowd and they still did not understand him.
