Weaknesses of Pan-Africanism
- It has failed to create a United States of Africa as was proposed during the 1945 Manchester conference.
- It has failed to raise the standards of living in Africa. Today, Africa is the poorest continent in the world.
- It has failed to end the human rights abuses in Africa.
- Despite its call for unity, divisions continued e.g. between the Casablanca and Monrovia groups, the capitalists and socialists, Franca phone countries against Anglo phone countries etc.
- Failure to eliminate neo-colonialism in Africa. African countries continue leaning to foreign powers for aid.
- Failure to train a new generation African leaders with patriotic feelings. Most leaders today are selfish and corrupt.
- It has failed to end ethnic rivalries and this has led to ethnic clashes e.g. the Tutsi-Hutu genocide of 1959- 1963 and 1990 - 1994.
- Disagreement between Pan African leaders e.g. Kwame Nkrumah disagreed with Abdel Nasser on the form of Union Africa should take.
- It has failed to strength the ties between Africans in Africa and in the Diaspora. Today, the PAM is almost a movement only for Africans in Africa.
