At KAWA, we believe that education is the foundation of national development. A strong education system equips people with the knowledge, values, confidence and practical skills required to improve their lives, create employment, solve community challenges and contribute to Uganda’s social and economic development.
Technology is creating new opportunities for education, communication, research, creativity and innovation. However, the presence of computers and internet access alone does not automatically improve learning. Schools also need confident teachers, locally relevant educational content, responsible learners, supportive leadership, well-maintained computer laboratories and continued professional guidance.
KAWA Uganda exists to help bring these important elements together.
Over the years, we have worked with schools, teachers, learners, education leaders, government institutions and development partners to promote the effective integration of technology into education. Our work focuses on helping schools use ICT not as a decoration or a resource that remains locked in a computer laboratory, but as a practical tool for improving classroom teaching, learner participation, school administration, educational research, innovation, career development and continuous professional learning.
We support Primary and Secondary schools through a wide range of programmes. These include in-service teacher training, blended learning, Continuous Professional Development, local digital-content development, creation of teaching and learning materials, KAWA Connect, ICT Club development, computer laboratory sustainability, school innovation projects, career guidance, online safety and the use of technology to improve school management.
Through the computers and other ICT infrastructure provided to many government secondary schools, KAWA continues to support schools in making better use of the available technology. Our goal is to help ensure that computers are actively and responsibly used for teaching, learning, research, revision, digital-content creation, learner projects, communication and practical skills development.
We recognise that schools operate under different conditions. Some schools have reliable internet and modern computer laboratories, while others have limited connectivity, few working devices or inadequate access to digital-learning resources. For this reason, KAWA promotes solutions that can work both online and offline, helping more teachers and learners participate regardless of their location or level of connectivity.
This website is the digital home of KAWA Uganda. It provides information about our programmes, educational resources, teacher-development opportunities, ICT Club activities, learner innovations, computer laboratory guidance, partnerships, school success stories and the progress being made in transforming education through technology.
Our Key Areas of Work
Teacher Professional Development
Teachers remain at the centre of meaningful educational transformation.
KAWA supports in-service teachers through practical digital-skills training, classroom technology integration, blended learning, online facilitation, educational-content development and Continuous Professional Development.
Our approach goes beyond introducing teachers to different digital tools. We help them understand how those tools can support lesson preparation, classroom explanation, learner participation, assessment, revision and professional collaboration.
Teachers are encouraged to practise the skills, prepare usable educational resources, apply what they have learnt in school and share their experiences with colleagues.
ICT Clubs Uganda
KAWA supports schools to establish and strengthen learner-led ICT Clubs.
ICT Clubs provide learners with structured opportunities to develop practical skills in:
- computer use;
- web design;
- coding and programming;
- digital storytelling;
- photography and video production;
- multimedia;
- artificial intelligence awareness;
- online safety;
- digital entrepreneurship;
- and project development.
Through ICT Clubs, learners are encouraged to become creators, leaders, collaborators and problem-solvers rather than passive consumers of technology.
The clubs also help schools promote responsible use of computers, peer learning, learner leadership, computer laboratory sustainability and innovation addressing real school and community challenges.
Digital Content and eLearning
KAWA develops and organises locally relevant digital educational content for teachers and learners.
The content may include:
- lesson notes;
- presentations;
- educational videos;
- diagrams;
- practical activities;
- assessments;
- revision resources;
- teacher guides;
- and learner project materials.
We believe that technology becomes educationally valuable when it provides accurate, understandable and well-organised content.
KAWA works with teachers, subject specialists, reviewers, editors, designers and technology professionals to create resources that support Uganda’s teaching and learning needs.
KAWA Connect
KAWA Connect is one of our major digital-learning solutions.
It provides organised, curriculum-supporting educational resources for use in classrooms, computer laboratories and low-connectivity environments.
The platform can support online and offline access, helping schools make better use of existing computers, local networks, storage devices and school-based hotspots.
Through KAWA Connect, teachers and learners can access educational content organised according to education level, class, subject and topic.
The platform is supported by teacher orientation, school implementation guidance, content development and continued improvement based on feedback from users.
Computer Laboratory Sustainability
A school computer laboratory creates lasting value when its equipment remains safe, functional, properly managed and regularly used for learning.
KAWA helps schools strengthen:
- laboratory leadership;
- equipment inventories;
- workstation organisation;
- preventive maintenance;
- fault reporting;
- cybersecurity;
- password safety;
- responsible learner use;
- teacher access;
- maintenance planning;
- and educational timetabling.
We encourage schools to move from waiting for computers to break down towards introducing systems that prevent avoidable problems, identify faults early and protect technology investment.
School Leadership and Improvement
Digital transformation requires strong and responsible school leadership.
KAWA supports headteachers, deputies, directors of studies, bursars, ICT teachers, laboratory managers and ICT Club patrons to develop practical school digital plans.
School leaders are supported to connect technology with:
- educational priorities;
- teacher capacity;
- learner access;
- laboratory management;
- online safety;
- school communication;
- budgeting;
- monitoring;
- and sustainability.
Technology programmes are more likely to continue when responsibilities are clear and school leadership provides time, resources, guidance and accountability.
Learner Innovation Projects
KAWA encourages schools to become centres of creativity, research and problem-solving.
Learners are supported to identify real problems affecting their schools or communities, investigate the causes, design possible solutions, develop prototypes, test their ideas and improve them through feedback.
Projects may address challenges in:
- education;
- agriculture;
- health;
- school management;
- communication;
- environmental protection;
- accessibility;
- sanitation;
- and community information.
Through school exhibitions, regional competitions, national opportunities and mentorship, learners gain experience in teamwork, technical skills, public speaking, documentation and innovation.
Career Guidance and Future Skills
Education should prepare learners not only to pass examinations but also to understand the opportunities available after school.
KAWA connects teachers and learners to information about:
- further education;
- digital careers;
- entrepreneurship;
- professional skills;
- innovation;
- employment;
- and lifelong learning.
Through ICT Clubs, training sessions, mentorship and career-awareness activities, learners are introduced to future opportunities in software development, digital media, data, cybersecurity, networking, educational technology, artificial intelligence and technology entrepreneurship.
eLearning Uganda
One of KAWA’s important platforms is eLearning Uganda, an online learning environment providing notes, videos, presentations, lesson materials and other educational resources.
The platform helps make learning more accessible to teachers, learners, parents, school leaders and individuals interested in professional and career development.
It allows users to explore useful educational content at school, at home or from another suitable learning environment.
KAWA Connect and eLearning Uganda support our wider vision of making educational resources more organised, affordable and accessible while recognising the different levels of internet connectivity across schools.

Our Growing Success Stories
KAWA’s success can be seen in teachers who are increasingly using digital resources in their lessons, learners who are actively participating in ICT Clubs, schools creating and organising local digital content, and school leaders taking greater responsibility for technology use.
Our strongest stories come from schools where action continues after training, orientation or programme launch.
These stories include:
- patrons establishing regular ICT Club meetings;

- teachers creating and using digital lessons;
- computer laboratories introducing fault-reporting systems;

KAWA-supported ICT Clubs are helping learners acquire practical experience in web design, coding, digital storytelling, teamwork, leadership, innovation and responsible technology use.
These experiences are building learner confidence and encouraging young people to see technology as a tool for learning, creativity and solving real problems.
