Transformation of agriculture
There is a crucial need to transform agriculture from the subsistence to a completely monetary sector. There two approaches to achieve this are improvement approach and transformation approach. However, the agricultural strategy for LDCs should aim at:
- Progressive modernization of the entire agricultural sector.
- Building an agricultural sector which is not dependent on nature.
- Developing agricultural research centres i.e. rural education and train farmers.
- Improving the distribution and marketing of products.
- Investment in infrastructure e.g. drainage and irrigation.
- Adopting appropriate land reform policies.
- Stabilizing prices of agricultural products.
- Commercialization
- Modernization
Intercomplementality between sectors e.g. agricultural sector supplies materials to industry and uses chemicals and fertilizers from the industrial sector.
Enhancing the system of agricultural taxation so as to avail services to areas.
