Isaiah opposed national
policies which ignored God and were based only on human calculation. He
condemned King Ahaz for his alliance with Assyria and King Hezekiah for his
alliance with EgYPt, when each king tried to secure the safety of Judah by
political scheming. He challenged each king to put his whole trust in God (7:
1-25, 2 Kings 19). He expected them to show their faith in Yahweh through their
political and national policies.
