Effects of the Libyan revolution.

Gadafi introduced the 3rd Universal theory. He reasoned that Islam has become a third universal force in the world in addition to Capitalism and socialism.

There was a cultural revival.

Gadafi fought against neo-colonialism. To Gadafi and his comrades, the presence of American and British troops in Wheelus and El Adem were signs of neo-colonialism.

Gadafi nationalised all foreigners' property. All land estates owned by Italian farmers were confiscated by government. Even other Italian businesses were nationalised without compensation from government.

A revolutionary command council (RCC) was formed. This was headed by Muamer Gadafi himself and was modeled along the lines of Egypt's RCC

It led to economic growth in Libya. By 1980, the once backward desert Kingdom had attained industrialization.

Local man power was trained. At first, the major problem to industrialization was lack of trained man power.

It led to infrastructural development. Between 1973-75, a number of roads and ports were constructed and modernized.

Improvements in education. As part of social development, free and compulsory primary education was provided. And this is still the case to date.

Health services were improved. Libya has been transformed from being a disease stricken to a disease free country.

Free Accommodation for all. To cater for the welfare of all Libyans, government embarked on the construction of residential houses.

Employment opportunities for all. Gadafi has made sure that all Libya nationals get jobs. The vast industrialisation and agricultural programmes have provided ample employment for all.

Agricultural development. In the five year plan of 1976-1980, agriculture was given substantial funds- a factor which led to self sufficiency in terms of food production.

Livestock improvement schemes were also established, co-operative societies for farmers were strengthened and these helped provide fertilizers, credit and marketing facilities for farmers. Hence the coup led to a revolution.

Unity was created in the Country. Before the 1969 coup, Libya had experienced divisions based on regional and tribal lines.

Participatory democracy was introduced. Though the RCC led by Gadafi exercises strong central control, a lot of power has been vested into the people.

It led to the personal esteem of Gadafi. The Gadafi cult. His name, has almost become a cult throughout Africa because of charisma, humour, incorruptibility and uncompromising attitude to the super powers.

Women emancipation has been attained in Libya, Gadafi has empowered women in Libya, which is a new phenomenon that is not tolerated in other Arab states.

Population control has been attained. Libya is the most successful Africa country so far to keep its population under control.
