GOD'S INTERVENTION AND RESPONSE TO THE DEATH OF NABOTH

(1Kings 21:17)

God sent Prophet Elijah to King Ahab immediately after Naboth had died following the evil plot of Jezebel.

Besides, God told Prophet Elijah that King Ahab was in Naboth's vineyard and was about to take possession of it.

Through Elijah, the Lord accused King Ahab of murdering Naboth and taking over his property as well.

God pronounced death on King Ahab as Prophet Elijah told him that the dogs would lick up his blood in the same place where the dogs had licked up Naboth's blood.

Through His prophet Elijah, the Lord accused King Ahab that he had devoted himself completely in doing what was wrong in his sight, all at the urging of his wife, Jezebel.

Besides, the Lord pronounced disaster on King Ahab. He would suffer the consequences of his disobedience.

God promised to do away with King Ahab and that he would get rid of all male children in his family.

The Lord told King Ahab that his family would become like the family of King Jeroboam. They would be punished in the same way as the Lord had punished Jeroboam's family.

The Lord told King Ahab that he had stirred his anger by misleading the people of Israel into sin.

The Lord went on to pronounce death on Jezebel. Prophet Elijah said that the dogs would eat her body in the city of Jezreel.

The Lord further pronounced death on the relatives of Jezebel. Those dying in the city of Jezreel would be eaten by dogs and those in the open country by vultures.

The Lord blamed King Ahab for living under the influence of his wife Jezebel. All his wrongs were at the urging of his wife, Jezebel.

Prophet Elijah accused King Ahab of committing the most sinful thing by worshipping idols as the Amorites had done. These were the people the Lord had driven as His people advanced on their way to the Promised Land.

However, the Lord forgave King Ahab after seeing how the king had humbled himself before Him. King Ahab had torn his cloth, put on sackcloth and refused to eat.

Despite His forgiveness, the Lord maintained that He would bring disaster on King Ahab but during his son's lifetime.
