Major Drainage Patterns on Topographical Maps
Parallel pattern
This develops along a scarp. Rivers flow in a generally same direction as seen in the diagram below.
Trellis pattern
This is where the tributaries join the main stream at right angles.
Centripetal pattern
This is where streams converge in a central area like a like or sea. See the diagram below.
Dendritic pattern
This is where the main river and its tributaries are arranged in the shape of a tree.
Radial Drainage
This is where rivers radiate outwards in all directions from the common source.
Hooked drainage pattern
Tributaries flow in the opposite direction of the main steam.
