External political reforms

1. Egypt refused to join any Western backed defence alliance that might involve the country in the cold war politics. Instead, the revolutionary regime chose to follow very dynamic foreign policy designed at weakening the strength of imperialism.

2. Egypt attacked the Baghdad Pact designed by the western powers to serve as an expansion of NATO into the Middle East.

3. Nasser gave practical support to small groups of Algerians who had launched liberation war in their country in 1954 against the French rule.

4. After successfully defeating the western powers in Suez Canal war of 1956, Egypt also became adored in the Middle East.

5. She became the real power behind the Arab cause. Therefore in 1958, Egypt entered into a short-lived political union with Syria creating the United Arab Republic (UAR).
